When insulting mothers was in vogue (e.g. “Your mother is so unintelligent she tripped over the cordless telephone”), I thought it was funny to insult people’s fathers. I remember tossing out a rejoinder about a fellow’s father being very promiscuous. He was quite enraged though he had only just said similar about my mother.
